A Whale of a Message to Raise Awareness about Ocean Conservation
The artistic installation "Skyscraper" created by Studio KCA was featured at the Bruges Triennial 2018. The centerpiece of the installation was the Bruges Whale, a 4.5-ton, 12-meter-long sculpture made from five tons of plastic recovered from the Atlantic Ocean, mainly discarded fishing nets and other marine debris. This sculpture was created to raise awareness about the urgent issue of plastic pollution in the oceans and to emphasize the importance of sustainability and environmental protection. Studio KCA used recycled materials and adopted an environmentally sustainable approach to create this installation, focusing on reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainability in art and design. The installation attracted the attention of thousands of visitors who marveled at the height of the whale and the profound message it conveyed. This was accompanied by an educational program aimed at raising awareness among visitors about plastic pollution and the urgent need to act to protect our oceans. Finally, the installation encouraged a conversation about how we can rethink our relationship with materials and adopt more sustainable approaches to artistic creation and design.
